Second area manager – Alasdair Manson – joins Rentplus’s new Northern team

Alasdair Manson is the second addition to Rentplus’s new Northern team and joins Rentplus today (4 November) as an Area Manager for the North of England. He will be working with housing developers, local authorities and councils in the region to offer affordable rent to buy to families in the north.

Rentplus Chief Executive, Steve Collins, welcomed Alasdair Manson’s appointment, saying: “Rentplus believes that every family dreaming of owning their home should have the opportunity to. With Alasdair’s appointment, families in the north of England will now have that chance.

“Rentplus has been successful across the south of the country. Our families have moved in to a home without having to have even one penny of deposit. They pay affordable rent until they are in a position to buy the home they are living in.”

Alasdair joins Sajjad Hussain, another Area Manager in the North, as Rentplus continues to grow across the country. Both will join Steve Collins at the Homes for the North Conference in Leeds on 14 November.

After completing a housing degree to become a Chartered Housing professional, Alasdair spent over 20 years working in the social housing sector. His work has covered housing needs and homeless prevention, asset services, income collection, housing management and estates services. He has worked for local authorities, housing associations and tenant management organisations. Prior to joining Rentplus he was Director of Neighbourhoods at Metropolitan Housing.

Alasdair Manson can be reached on [email protected]

Sajjad Hussain is latest area manager to join Rentplus, expanding the reach of the business into the north of England.

With a background in social housing, Sajjad was until recently acting chief executive at Westmorelands Supported Housing Association in Nottingham and has held chief executive and other roles with councils and housing associations across the midlands and north of England.

Chief Executive Steve Collins welcomed the appointment, saying: “We have established ourselves across the south of England and midlands and the appointment of our area managers in the north is an important step in Rentplus’ evolution.

“A majority of our residents work in the public sector and that includes our armed forces personnel, nurses, paramedics and NHS staff, teachers and firefighters. Those working to support our communities may be on lower to middle incomes, privately renting and unable to save the large deposits needed to access other home ownership products such as high street mortgages, shared ownership and the government’s Help to Buy – all of which demand large deposits.

“Rentplus believes that all hard working people should have the opportunity to get on to the housing ladder if that is what they aspire to: and an inability to save for a deposit, or having a poor credit rating should not prevent access to home ownership.

“Sajjad brings a wealth of experience in the social housing sector and will play an important part in ensuring that hard working families in the north of England have an opportunity to get on to the housing ladder through our innovative affordable rent to buy proposition.”

Mr Hussain added: “I am looking forward to engaging with colleagues across the social housing sector in the north to ensure local people have equity of access to owning their own home.

“I’ll be in Leeds for the Homes for the North Conference on 14 November which will be the first opportunity to engage with all members of the housing community here, but if any housing developers, local authorities, housing associations or RPs in the region want to talk to me ahead of this, they can contact me through the Rentplus website at Rentplus-uk.com

Sajjad holds postgraduate qualifications in public services management and is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.

Rentplus is delighted to learn that it has won the National Housing Award in the Most Innovative Home Ownership Solution category.

Chief Executive, Steve Collins said: “Rentplus believes that whatever your background or postcode, you should have an opportunity to buy a place to call your own.

”We help those wishing to own a home but unable to raise the large deposits lenders require to do just that.

“Our families move in to a Rentplus home with no deposit. They pay an affordable rent and have five to 20 years to save to purchase the house they live in.

“And when they’re ready to buy, Rentplus gifts 10 per cent of the market value towards their deposit.

“The largest percentage of Rentplus families and applicants come from the public sector – our nurses, teachers, armed forces, paramedics. Not the high earners but they equally deserve the chance to own their own home.

“No-one else is offering this to families in this country – and Rentplus is doing this at no public expense.

“We have £2bn to invest today in social housing and we’d like to see every local authority and housing association in the country join us to offer people that chance to rent, save and then own their home.

“Thank you to the National Housing Awards for this award. The team at Rentplus really appreciates it.”

Until May 2019, Northampton nurse, Nicole Richards had been living in privately rented houses for over five years, finding it impossible to save anything towards the deposit she needed to be able to buy her own home.

When her landlord in Wellingborough decided to raise her rent, she knew that she would have to downsize, and immediately started looking for a new home to rent. She had little idea that just a week later she would be moving in to her brand new home, paying affordable rent and on a trajectory to owning her home.

Like so many of those applying for a Rentplus affordable rent to buy home, 27- year – old Nicole works in the public sector as a qualified nurse, helping young people with mental ill health in a local Northampton CAMHS unit.

Rentplus-UK Limited has been named a finalist for its third award in a year.

It has just learned that it’s shortlisted in the National Housing Awards, one of the most prestigious awards in housing in the country. It is nominated in the Most Innovative Home Ownership Solution category. The other awards were the UK Housing Awards, and Best Rural Development in the Devon Rural Housing Awards.

Rentplus is the leading provider of affordable rent to buy homes across England, providing real opportunities for people on low to middle incomes aspiring to move from renting to owning through an unique rent, save, own model. The first Rentplus homes were built in Plymouth and around Devon but has expanded across the south of England and into the East Midlands.

Rentplus provides an innovative solution to the UK’s housing need. By working in close partnership with national government, housing associations, local authorities, local enterprise partnerships, developers, house builders and private investors, Rentplus is funding and building thousands of new homes across the country for people to rent and then buy.

The National Housing Awards celebrate excellence, innovation and creativity in the affordable housing sector, showcasing inspiring examples of work being done in housing across the country.

Rentplus will find out if it has won the award in September.

Milton Keynes-based affordable rent to buy housing provider, Rentplus, has been shortlisted for the Innovator Partner award – part of the prestigious national 2019 UK Housing Awards.

Rentplus offers an accessible route to homeownership for lower or middle income working people who are unable to save for a deposit.

Working with local authorities, housebuilders and housing associations, Rentplus buys new homes, which it leases to housing associations who, in turn, allocate the homes to tenants.

Tenants pay an affordable rent which is substantially lower than market rents. The rent includes service charges and no maintenance responsibilities, which means occupants can save for their deposit and build a credit history to support a future mortgage application.

They then have the option to purchase their home after 5, 10, 15 or 20 years, at which time Rentplus gifts them a cash sum of ten per cent of the market value of the house towards their deposit.

The vast majority of Rentplus occupants come from social housing waiting lists. Up to 50 per cent move out of social housing into their affordable rent to buy home, freeing their council or housing association home up for those in greater need.

All applicants need to be working, and most are employed as ‘key workers’ – in the NHS and emergency services, education or the armed forces.

Steve Collins, the Chief Executive of Rentplus now has to present to a judging panel in March, before hearing whether Rentplus has won,

in May of this year.

Mr Collins said: “We are very excited to have been shortlisted for this national award.

“Rentplus helps local authorities to reduce their waiting lists. Providing access to affordable rent-to-buy schemes not only gives people on lower incomes, or without a deposit, a real opportunity to own their own home, but helps build communities that people want to live in.”

Rentplus has homes across the south of England. Locally it has homes in Earl’s Barton and Northampton. It plans to expand further into Northamptonshire and into Buckingham and Bedfordshire this year. More information can be found at www.rentplus-uk.com

We’re thrilled to be a finalist in the 2019 UK Housing Awards. We are in the Innovator Partner of the Year category.

It is testament to all the support from our local authority, housing association and house building partners for making affordable rent-to-buy a reality for lower income workers. Thank you.

We’ll find out more in May 2019!
