Rentplus works with local authorities and housing associations. It does not allocate Rentplus homes directly to tenants. Local authorities determine who is eligible to apply for Rentplus homes in their area. In many cases, local authorities are looking to target those households who are in the middle to lower bandings on their choice based letting schemes and/or households on their ‘Help to Buy’ register.
Local authorities may also consider other criteria such as ‘is the tenant freeing up an existing affordable rented home’ which could be used to house priority needs households. Housing Associations will also look at aspirant homeowners who considered shared ownership but could not raise the deposit required for this tenure.
An unique feature of Rentplus is that tenants receive a gifted deposit of ten per cent of the property’s market value at the time of purchase.
